Artist Fan Letter
The Avella staff can now write 'Artist Fan Letters' to any student whose work they admire! Thank you Miss Songer for admiring my new winter board:)
Fifth Grade Birch Trees
Shadows aren't black???? The students learned that shadows are just a darker shade than the surface that they're on. I loved how these turned out. Nice work fifth grade!!

Thank you!!!!
A HUGE thank you to everyone who bought carnations through the elementary Art Club! We are raising money to go to the Carnegie Museum and your support is very appreciated!
The importance of a sketchbook
Grades 2-6 all made sketchbooks this year. It is important for the students to sketch out their ideas before they work on their final drawing for many reasons. Students can determine what choices work and what designs do not through practice drawings. Grades 2-6 also will write several reflections throughout the year describing their art and the choices that they made.
Sketchbook Prompt: Draw a family self-portrait. Plot twist: it's a family of insects!!!
Sketchbook Prompt: How can we tell that stained glass is from the Renaissance era?

Avella Fall Festival is Tomorrow!!!
The High School Art Club has one spooky night planned for the community! Make sure you stop by for a fun night of candy, games, a costume contest, food, prizes, raffles, and more! See you there:)
Fall Leaves
Fall has to be the most beautiful season and I love studying leaves with the students. In second grade, we observed the different types of leaves and their shape. We printed some of them and then the students drew their own. Nice work Second grade!!!
Renaissance Art Work!!
Second Grade learned about homophones and created Knights at Night! We used metallic paper and simple shapes to create our knights and castles.
Third Grade learned about the amazing artist, Guiseppe Arcimboldo! This artist was known for his fruit portraits.
First Grade learned about the Renaissance artist, Hieronymus Bosch and created these huge owls!
We discussed the Illuminated Manuscript in Fourth grade and the students created their initial on tooling foil! These are so neat!!
Fifth grade drew personal symbols on shields for their Renaissance project! I loved reading their explanations inside of their sketchbooks:)
