BIG NEWS!!!!!

I am excited to announce that we were approved for a grant to go to the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh!!!!  We raised money through fundraising and had enough for the bus, but the Carnegie Museum was generous enough to pay for all of the Art Club's admission into the museum!  I am so excited to take the students on this trip.  A huge thank you to the Carnegie Museum of Art for helping us out!

Famous Artist Inspired Chairs

This is going to be a BIG project and I am so excited about it!  I wanted the students to do a 3-D sculpture for their next project and I was inspired by Vincent van Gogh's chair painting.  I thought it would be neat for each student to come up with their own chair design based on a famous artist.
Each student was assigned a famous artwork and researched their piece in the computer lab.  Everyone had to come up with a sketch for their "inspired" chair and I was blown away!!!!  After class I flipped through each sketchbook and was so impressed with the designs that they came up with.  A huge part of this project is to not copy the artwork per se.  I wanted the students to think bigger than that and use their own creativity to come up with an original artwork.  I cannot wait to see the kids start this project and for the finished results!

Second Grade Hot Air Balloons

Second Grade made these awesome hot air balloons using various materials!  First, we created a textured ground by rubbing crayon over our paper on the hallway wall.  Next, we painted a sunset sky and white, fluffy clouds.  Last, we mod-podged tissue paper onto our cut out balloons and then added a person inside of the basket.  Nice work, artists!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!!!

Dr. Seuss day is one of my favorite days of the year!  The students did an awesome job creating Seuss- inspired artwork to decorate our halls!

Clay Roses

Sixth grade made these gorgeous clay roses!  I really like the splatter paint that some of the kids chose to do!
